We had a hell of a weekend and a very important experience coming today...

BUT FIRST

PODCHAN ART CONTEST WINNERS

The team deliberated, concentrated, and eventually we decided @itsreddqueen and @Xinxinix would ultimately decide the final winners via voice chat while having @PsychoGoldfish, @VoicesByCorey, and @Will's input via their top four(ish) choices.

And here's what we came to decide as a team:

1.) Pod-chan bringing the hottest news from Newgrounds to Newgrounds by @pepperly

Redd and I decided this one was just too powerful to not be amazed and wondered by because of the childhood edition of Podchan being represented. We were awed by pepperly's incredible composition; how well Podchan fits into the NG community and influences its residents can really be felt. The feeling that Podchan represents positivity and has found her own place in "NG city" means a lot to us.

Our main mission with Podchan was to at least make her feel like she's a part of the character cast of Newgrounds, which probably isn't the easiest to accomplish, but NG is also one of the most welcoming places to be. To think that Podchan could be shown being accepted into the warm, welcoming family of Newgrounds definitely brings joy to us that we can barely manage to find words for.

(also, Podchan is too damn cute, and the personality was nailed!!)

2.) POD-CHAN'S STRONG by @chipollo

Adding onto the canonical features of Podchan, chipollo drew Podchan's true inner strength by showing her lifting up the one and only heavyweight on NGP, Josh, with one hand. There are several reasons we enjoy this drawing beyond the inclusion of the whole NGP cast.

As much as Podchan's design can be really enjoyable to some, the major facet of where we think her charisma lies would be in her possible interactions on NGP. We see her being more than a mascot--she's more of a character that has the possibility to interview and speak on the podcast and interact with the community via her Newgrounds and Twitter.

We think that showing where her personality situates on the NGP team was really important! She's got more personality and spunk, and even more to go around, than her cohorts! Her place in NGP will eventually (and hopefully) feel as tangible as any of the hosts, and we think chipollo did very well to show that.

3.) Pod Chan Forever by @DonnySharko

We think this one would be a favorite of @Podchan's.

Yes, Podchan is robotic, yes she's short and full of fierce feistiness, and sure she has a few pending court dates because of her rage, but there's an elegance to her seemingly sporadic temperament. Sometimes, having Podchan up in your face only means she cares. Sometimes her boisterous, loud, in-your-ear attitude is the right spice you need when needing to hype yourself up to go and chase your own dreams! And sometimes, she just wants to be seen as the homie you can hangout with and share your favorite tunes with...

We like DonnySharko's design because it's just that--Podchan's personality neatly packed into an alternate, more mature version that we personally think Podchan herself would love. This art is almost how we would envision a rogue, older-looking version of Podchan, where she's out clubbing or being her normal rambunctious self, but in a way that looks really alluring and orientated.
